Homework for Monday, March 31, 2008

March 30, 2008 by James Hendricks

We will be continuing our autobiography project this week. There will be a check-in this coming Friday, April 4th. Students should bring everything they have completed into the class so it can be reviewed. The project should still be unfinished at this point. The school can provide some supplies and we can print the projects in color if you wish. All you need to do is send the project in by email (myfirstname.mylastname@mansfieldct.org replacing myfirstname with james and mylastname with hendricks) or bring it in on a CD or flash drive. We will get the project printed off in the computer lab. Check-ins are part of your child’s grade.

This project is due on Friday, April 11 — no exceptions. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Harrington Returns for Animal Adaptations Science Workshop

March 21, 2008 by James Hendricks

Mrs. Sue Harrington is returning to the third grade classrooms to present workshops on animal adaptations. The Southeast Elementary School PTO has graciously provided funding so that Mrs. Harrington could come in and share some science activities with our classes. In the fall, she presented an activity on rocks and mineral identification; the students loved it! We can’t wait for Mrs. Harrington to return on Friday, March 28th. It is a great way for us to extend our learning about animal adaptations!

Science Fair and Invention Convention

March 21, 2008 by James Hendricks

The Science Fair and Invention Convention are coming to Southeast.  Each year, students from across the school participate in this schoolwide enrichment event that allows them to explore different science concepts or create inventions to solve different problems.  On Wednesday, March 26, 2008 students participating in the Science Fair and Invention Convention will showcase their projects in the all-purpose room.  The Invention Convention is a judged competition and winners can move on to the state competition that takes place at Gampel Pavilion at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.  Southeast Elementary School has had more than a couple winners at the state competitions over the past several years.

Classes from all over the building will visit the Science Fair and Invention Convention during the day.  An award ceremony will take place at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, March 26 so that students can celebrate their accomplishments.  Several students from the Team Hendricks classroom will participate in this event.  Congratulations on your hard work!

Keith Michael Johnson Comes to Southeast

March 17, 2008 by James Hendricks

This year’s schoolwide theme is Southeast Superheroes. The Southeast Elementary School PTO is sponsoring an assembly for our school! Keith Michael Johnson will be returning to preform Amazing Americans. His web site reports:

Keith’s enrichment programs are designed to meet the educational needs of five to twelve year olds — at school, at the library, and at special events. Using humor and audience participation, Keith teaches and entertains in a way that reinforces key points of the elementary school curriculum.

We can’t wait for him to arrive. His shows are always funny and entertaining! You can learn more about Keith Michael Johnson by visiting his web site at www.keithmichaeljohnson.com.
