Changing Weather Conditions
November 16, 2009 by James Hendricks
Just a quick note! Please make sure that your child is coming to school with the appropriate clothing. With the changing weather conditions this fall, it can be 60 degrees at the beginning of the day and 40 degrees at the end of the day. Due to the lice outbreak at the beginning of the year, the school cannot lend out coats/sweatshirts for students to wear during recess.
It is also a really good idea for student to have a sweatshirt in his or her locker. The heating in our classroom is not always consistent despite the constant adjusting of our radiators! It has also been recommended that we keep the window cracked to promote airflow in the classroom. If a student is near the window, I usually hear, “I’m cold.” While the window is not open much, it is still needed keep the appropriate airflow! My response to the student is to go get the sweatshirt out of the locker. Thanks for helping out with this!
Homework for the Week of November 16 to 20, 2009
November 16, 2009 by James Hendricks
Hello All!
I am going to try to get back into posting homework and other things again! I apologize for the extended absence with our team web site!
This week’s homework allows students to practice written responses to reading questions. It also gives you an opportunity to see what students are expected to answer in third grade. Please help to support your child with the homework. We have been practicing written responses during reading time. Our class continues to have difficulty with restating the question in the answer (Question: What color is the dog? Answer: The color of the dog is brown.) and going back into the story and finding story details/text to support their answers and then taking that text and placing it into their answer. Please support your child with making complete answers that include story details to support his/her answers. By midyear, students are expected to be able to do this on their own.
In addition, we are now in Unit 8 of the spelling program. I have added additional activities for students to practice words. You can access the activities by clicking on “Spelling Pilot Words” at the top of the page.
