Welcome to a new year!

It is hard to believe, but we have started the 2010-2011 school year. There are many things that are taking place this year in our classroom that will foster your child’s academic independence. TEAM… the school’s theme stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Our class name is Team Hendricks because it reinforces the fact that we are all part of a team in our classroom. Each child must understand that individual and class goals make us all succeed and we must help each other with those goals. It will be a great year for our team.

Measurable Snow is Finally Here!

Hello All!

Well, Isabelle and Elizabeth must have been doing the “Miss Parker-requested” snow dance. We got a bumper crop and it is still snowing as I look out the window this morning. The teachers of SE are always working behind the scenes. Miss Parker and I have been talking this AM and she would like to take you for an extended PE class on Monday morning. Cross country skiing is finally here! Please make sure to bring:

Good Winter Coat
Snow Pants
Gloves
Hat
2 Extra Sets of Socks (one for between specials and recess and one for after recess) — Your feet will get wet!
Snow Boots (for outdoor recess)

It is important to have those snow pants because you are going to fall down and get snowy/wet! Double sets of wind pants/warm-ups don’t usually work because you get cold and wet during the PE class.

We have found that using the reusable grocery store tote bags work the best for gear. If you need one, please let me know!

Changing Weather Conditions

Just a quick note! Please make sure that your child is coming to school with the appropriate clothing. With the changing weather conditions this fall, it can be 60 degrees at the beginning of the day and 40 degrees at the end of the day. Due to the lice outbreak at the beginning of the year, the school cannot lend out coats/sweatshirts for students to wear during recess.

It is also a really good idea for student to have a sweatshirt in his or her locker. The heating in our classroom is not always consistent despite the constant adjusting of our radiators! It has also been recommended that we keep the window cracked to promote airflow in the classroom. If a student is near the window, I usually hear, “I’m cold.” While the window is not open much, it is still needed keep the appropriate airflow! My response to the student is to go get the sweatshirt out of the locker. Thanks for helping out with this!

Carnival Basket

Dear Team Hendricks Families,

As part of our class’ contribution, to the PTO Carnival to be held later this month, we will be creating a themed basket. Our class’ theme will be “Birthday Party Basket.” I would like to ask for donations for our basket. We are looking for items that cost around $5.00. Generic items are great (for boys or girls). Possibilities include:

Plates, Napkins, Paper Cups, Table Cloth,Decorations (crepe paper, etc.), Frosting, Toys for a grab bag, Candles, Birthday cake in a box, Hats, Cake decorations, Invitations

Welcome Back!

It is hard to believe that the summer has flown by as fast as it has. We are back to school and ready to start a great year. This year’s school theme is TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More! As students enter Room 17 this morning, they will become a part of a team. We do many great things together, as well as many special things that other classes in the school don’t get to do.

Families are part of our team. I encourage you to contact me if you have questions or concerns. I am always available by email or by telephone (email is the best way to get in touch with me though!). I will update this post as our day finishes.

Monday 01/05/09 – 90 Minute Delay

The Mansfield Public Schools have delayed our school opening by 90 minutes due to the thick layer of black ice all around the state. Have a safe trip in this morning.
