Homework for Week of September 22, 2008

September 22, 2008 by James Hendricks

Hi Team Hendricks Families,

As we are beginning the new Bridges in Mathematics program this school year, there are bound to be bumps along the way.  After collaborating with our mathematics consultant on Home Connection #1, there apparently was an issue with the timeline.  For that, I apologize!  Because of the issue, I am going to reduce the “written” homework this week and will only be assigning the Home Connections activities.

As I told the students today, it is important for them to get as much done on Home Connection #1 on Monday and Tuesday.  This will alleviate some of the homework this weekend.  I do not normally assign homework over the weekend, but the timing of the Home Connection #2 is important.  Below, you will find the homework for the week and weekend.

MONDAY
  • Work on Home Connection #1 - Solving Addition Facts - Due Friday
  • You may turn your Home Connection #1 in early!
  • Home Connection #2 is coming home this Wednesday and you will have work to do! Make sure you are using your time wisely to finish up Home Connection #1.
TUESDAY
  • Work on Home Connection #1 - Solving Addition Facts - Due Friday
  • You may turn your Home Connection #1 in early!
  • Home Connection #2 is coming home this Wednesday and you will have work to do! Make sure you are using your time wisely to finish up Home Connection #1
WEDNESDAY
  • Work on Home Connection #1 - Solving Addition Facts - Due Friday
  • Read over Home Connection #2
  • Cut out the four pages of Ten Strip cards on pages 5, 7, 9, and 11
  • Place in a zip-lock bag or envelope and keep in a safe place!
THURSDAY
  • Work on Home Connection #1 - Solving Addition Facts - Due Friday

  • Play the game Addition Facts Challenge (from Home Connection #2) with your family. Discuss your math thinking to show your computation strategies and number awareness.
FRIDAY
  • Home Connection #2: Complete the Home Connection #2 activity worksheet on page 13 - parts a, b, c, and d. Due on Monday
  • Complete the Home Connection activity worksheet Challenge on the bottom of page 13. Put a story problem on the back of the paper. Remember that story problems have sentences. Due on Monday

Homework for the Week of September 15, 2008

September 15, 2008 by James Hendricks

Hello Team Hendricks Families!  There was a bunch of paper work that went home this week.  Let me try to break it down for you!

Math Pack Weeks 5 and 6 - This pack is due on Friday, 9/19.

Home Connections Book #1 - This book should be completed and handed in on Friday, 9/26.  We have been working diligently on the activities that are included in the book.  Students should be able to do this with a little assistance.

Home Connection 1 * Activity Sheet - This is a letter about the Home Connections Book.  Please sign and return that tomorrow, Tuesday, 9/16.

Second Grade Muscle Word Corrections - Students received a blank pack.  District guidelines report that students who did not get all of the words correct must write them 10 times.  The corrected test is included on the last page.  As some students only had two or three words wrong and some students had more, the due date is different for every student.  It is written on the top of the sheet.  Please have your child pass it in by the approprite date.

There is a lot of things on tap this week.  Please use your best judgement when it comes to math facts and the third grade muscle word practice.  Students should always read at least 15 minutes and this should be integrated into their daily homework routine.

Homework for Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Homework for Thursday, August 28, 2008

August 28, 2008 by James Hendricks

In addition to the homework below, please make sure that your child brings back the beginning of the school year forms.  These forms are extremely important to start the school year with the appropriate information.  Homework tonight includes:

  1. Cursive Page 1 - l and h.  We went over how this is practice and it does not need to be perfect, but they should try their best at it.
  2. Cut out all subtraction flash cards.
  3. Look for pictures for the reading theme wall (Due on Tuesday).

Have a great evening!

Homework for Wednesday, August 27, 2007

August 27, 2008 by James Hendricks

Tonight, students received many things in their backpacks.  Here is the “what you need to know” for tonight’s homework:

  1. Bring back all school forms signed by parents.
  2. Cut out all addition flash cards.
  3. Look for pictures for the reading theme wall (Due on Tuesday).
  4. Review the homework information on the back of the planner (blue paper in STAR folder).
  5. Three students need to complete the yellow summer homework assignment from Mrs. Fisher-Doiron that was due today.

I hope that your child found that third grade is a great place to learn!  Have a good evening!

Summer Homework

August 3, 2008 by James Hendricks

In the coming weeks, you will be receiving a homework assignment from our school theme committee.  It is extremely important for your child to finish this assignment and bring it in on the first day of school.

Homework Until the End of the School Year

June 10, 2008 by James Hendricks

Well, we have finally made it to the last homework assignment of the school year.  For the next two weeks (June 9 through June 20), students have been given a pack of math logic games to play at home.  Each night, students should pick a new game and play it for ten to fifteen minutes.  No other homework is required.  This means that students are not required to read for 20 minutes, practice math facts, or practice spelling words.  This time of the year with the heat and the number of after school activities can prove difficult for homework time.  This gives students the opportunity to work on their own schedule.
